No. 1 Punahou routs Damien, 42-12

No. 1-ranked Punahou routed Damien, 42-12, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu football game played at the Buffanblu's field yesterday.

Brett Kan passed for two touchdowns and scored on two short runs in the first half before giving way to backup Pono Akina.

Punahou, which competes in the ILH Division I, improved to 4-1 overall, 2-1 in league play. Damien, a Division II team, dropped to 3-3, 1-2.

Avarado threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Gibson in the first quarter and scored on a 1-yard run in the third. Kawika Samson-Aiwohi capped the scoring with a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Alex Daniels returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and the host Rams scored on an interception return and a fumble recovery to beat the Mustangs and remain undefeated in the OIA White.

After Kalaheo's Matthew Soueira tied the score at 7-all with a 17-yard run in the first quarter, the Rams scored 26 unanswered points.

The host Menehunes defeated the Bulldogs to clinch an OIA White playoff berth.

Stanford Leti caught a touchdown pass and rushed for two more for the Menehunes, who led 14-0 at halftime.

Leti caught a 4-yard TD pass from John Torres in the first half, then added scoring runs of 5 and 61 yards in the fourth quarter.

KAISER 32, KALANI 7

Isaac Saffery rushed for 183 yards and scored on runs of 41 and 71 yards to cap a 25-point third quarter as the host Cougars kept their playoff hopes alive in the White with a victory over the Falcons.

Kalani took a 7-0 lead on Jeff Boyne's 1-yard run in the second quarter, but CJ Criado's 9-yard run tied the game at 7 at halftime.
