The Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center continues to add new staff to help usher in changes taking place with ongoing $84 million renovations:
NANI HIROSANE has been named marketing coordinator for The Festival Cos./Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. She will work with the center's advertising, public relations and interactive advertising agencies, as well as merchants of the 25-year-old Waikiki shopping complex. Hirosane was previously account coordinator with Laird Christianson Advertising, and is a former Web marketing assistant at HawaiiActivities.com and customer service assistant with BookItHawaii.com.
ANDREW ARAKAKI has been named promotions coordinator. He brings previous events planning, promotional skills and interactive experience as a former event coordinator assistant, Web designer and manager, variously, for Sharpnote Records and PresaleTicketsOnline.com.
MIHO FREITAS and YOKO ENGLE join the center's marketing team as bilingual concierges for Japanese- and English-speaking visitors. Freitas brings with her consumer relations and customer service experience as former sales associate for DFS (Duty Free Shoppers) Galleria and Sheraton Waikiki Hotel language specialist. Engle, a veteran of the Japan tourism market, is a former tour coordinator and booking agent for Japan Travel Bureau (JTB).
CAROLYN MATSUTANI has been named director of human resources for the YMCA of Honolulu, including nine branch locations, and the metropolitan office. She was previously human resources compensation and benefits manager at Galyan's Trading Co., in Indiana, and before that, general store manager for Younkers in Iowa.
BRUCE K. UMEDA has been hired by Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Co. to fill the newly-created position of assistant vice president-brokerage sales. The 30-year insurance industry veteran of group benefits experience will be responsible for both employee benefits, and individual life brokerage sales. He was most recently with Hartford Life and Accident for 13 years. He claims the distinction of holding all officer positions for both the Honolulu and state chapters of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, including his present position as state chapter treasurer.
KATHY PERKINS, vice president of membership for the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai'i since 2002, has been named senior vice president, and head of the Retail Banking Division of Central Pacific Bank. Perkins is an over-20-year veteran of Bank of Hawai'i, including positions as senior vice president and division manager of client service; and manager for the bank's Metro District.
Hastings & Pleadwell: A Communication Co. has added four new employees: SHERONA SACCOCCIE, named the firm's Honolulu office administrator; AIMEE LARSEN KIRKPATRICK, an experienced event planner most recently with the South Snohomish (Washington state) County Chamber of Commerce, new account executive; and new account coordinators, EMMANUELLE SAILOR and JEANNIE PINPIN.
AILEEN H. NONAKA has joined the human resources department of Alexander & Baldwin as director of compensation and benefits, succeeding Ramona Sayre who retired in April after an 11-year career with A&B. Nonaka will oversee the company's compensation and benefit programs for non-bargaining employees. The over 20-year employee benefits and human resources management veteran comes to A&B from Hawaiian Airlines. There, as senior director, benefits and compensations, she managed 55 employee benefits and compensation programs for the over 3,400 non-contract and union employees.
Former KITV-TV news reporter and anchor ROBERTA WONG MURRAY has been named senior vice president of corporate communications for the San Francisco-based Bank of the West. The Honolulu native is a longtime San Francisco Bay Area corporate communications and public relations veteran. She comes to the bank from Wong and Murray Inc., the Bay Area public relations agency she co-founded over 17 years ago. She has also served in senior public relations and public affairs management positions with Kaiser Development Co, and Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp., both in Oakland, Calif. In her new job, she will oversee strategic and tactical planning, and internal and external bank communications, including public, media and investor relations. Bank of the West is a subsidiary of BancWest Corp. and sister company of First Hawaiian Bank.
Bradley Begonia has joined Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties in the newly-created position of marketing services manager. He will oversee operations of the Marketing Services Center launched in October, and supervise database processing of agent mailing lists, direct marketing development and execution, and creative services.
