Dan Haggerty — even at the peak of his hirsute '70s "Grizzly Adams" glory — had nothing on Timothy Treadwell, the bizarre and doomed protagonist of Werner Herzog's documentary "Grizzly Man." Long Island native Treadwell was an amateur conservationist and TV zoologist hopeful who, for 13 summers, documented the activities of grizzly bears in Alaska's Katmai National Park. "Grizzly Man" is made up of footage, shot by the society-bashing, naive Treadwell before being mauled and eaten by a grizzly in 2003. The result is an enthralling doc about a would-be modern-day Dr. Dolittle/adventurer who misjudged his ability to talk to the animals. Opens today at Doris Duke Theatre, 1 and 7:30 p.m. 532-8768.
