Luce Foundation awards $210,000

The Henry Luce Foundation has awarded a three-year $210,000 grant to the East-West Center in support of a South Korea-United States journalist exchange program.

$150,000 GOES TO PREVENT SMOKING

The Hawai'i Community Foundation has awarded $150,000 to the American Lung Association of Hawai'i for its Word of Mouth youth smoking prevention program.

GOODWILL GETS $10,000 BOOST

The G.N. Wilcox Trust has granted Goodwill Industries of Hawai'i $10,000 to place additional Community Donation Centers into neighborhoods across Hawai'i.

HIV/AIDS EVENT NETS $7,000

Six Punahou students raised $7,000 at a Halloween fundraiser they held at Rumours Nightclub. The proceeds were presented to Life Foundation in support of children coping with HIV/AIDS.

HAWAI'I THEATRE GETS $5,000

The James & Abigail Campbell Foundation has awarded the Hawai'i Theatre a $5,000 grant for an encore presentation of "3Showtime," a show that introduces students to the delights of live theater.

SAM'S CLUB GIVES $1,000 TO SCHOOL

Sam's Club has donated $1,000 to the Seagull School at Kapolei for a television and DVD/VCR player for the adult day services program and a digital camera for the preschool.

NONPROFIT GROUP AWARDED $1,000

Alexander & Baldwin Foundation has awarded a $1,000 grant to The Arc in Hawai'i, an advocate nonprofit organization for people with developmental disabilities. The money will be used to start a therapeutic drumming program.
