TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Wanted" season finale, 8 p.m., TNT. As the first season ends the characters are spinning out of control. Maybe the series is, too. "Wanted" has an elite team chasing Los Angeles' 100 worst criminals. Our heroes have always had a brutality and ferocity to them, but now that reaches overload. The story starts with a drug dealer gleefully massacring his competitors. It soon gets nasty on the police side. On "The Shield," police excess is given shading and background. Here it merely explodes. Strongly written and acted, "Wanted" still leaves the viewer feeling tainted.

OF NOTE

"Vanilla Sky" (2001), 6 and 9 p.m., Bravo. Reality and illusion interweave in the mind of a man whose privileged life suddenly crumbles. There are some fascinating moments here from a talented director (Cameron Crowe) and actors (Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz). Still, it doesn't add up as well as it should.

"Arrested Development," 7 and 7:30 p.m., Fox. In the first episode, Michael hopes to fire the family lawyer (Henry Winkler). In the second, the Christmas party brings trouble for everyone: Gob is bitter, Lindsay is prowling for men, Michael is doing badly at karaoke.

"How I Met Your Mother," 7:30 p.m., CBS. In the series opener, Ted met a bright and beautiful woman then blew it. Now this funny rerun has him scheming to find her again. He plans to keep throwing parties until she shows up.

"Out of Practice," 8:30 p.m., CBS. In this rerun, Ben wants to fly to Oregon, hoping for a reconciliation with his wife. His parents and siblings figure he's better off without her.

"CSI: Miami," 9 p.m., CBS. A young man has confessed to a murder, but Horatio doesn't believe him and keeps investigating.

"Medium," 9 p.m., NBC. Here's a rerun of the episode that introduced David Cubitt as a regular. He's a police detective who is convinced that the deaths of his sister and her husband weren't really a murder-suicide. He distrusts Allison's claims of ESP. He's also bitter about working with her.
