Damien all-star defensive lineman Michael Sipili said yesterday he has verbally committed to play football at Oregon State.

The 6-foot-1, 240-pound senior said he had told OSU coaches several weeks ago of his commitment. He said he took a recruiting trip to Corvallis, Ore., after his team's season ended on Nov. 4.

"During school, the coach came and talked to me," Sipili said. "He asked me (if I would accept) and I said, 'Yeah.' "

Sipili said he also had offers from Boise State, New Mexico State and San Diego State. He has visited all four campuses, he said.

"I feel very comfortable with (my decision)," Sipili said.

Sipili is an Interscholastic League of Honolulu first-team all-star defensive lineman, although he has played some linebacker. He said OSU plans to use him at either position.

At OSU, he will join Kamehameha offensive lineman Ryan Pohl, who verbally committed during the summer.

Other Hawai'i players who have given verbal commitments are: Farrington offensive lineman Whitley Fehoko (Utah); Lahainaluna defensive lineman Peni Fiuangaihetau (Weber State), Kamehameha-Maui offensive line Walter Kahaiali'i (Brigham Young), Moanalua quarterback Stanford Leti (Hawai'i);

Saint Louis defensive lineman Elliott Purcell (New Mexico State), Kamehameha defensive lineman Kapono Rawlins-Crivello (Boise State), Konawaena defensive lineman Dylan Rush (UCLA), Kamehameha defensive lineman Kawika Shook (New Mexico State) and Moanalua linebacker Quinton Tang (Hawai'i).

The first day binding national letters of intent may be signed is Feb. 8.
