Ministries group plans two events

Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Islands Ministries is hosting two events:

  • A Hawaii Pastors Conference will be held Jan. 9-10 at St. Stephen's Diocesan Center with speaker Don Cousins discussing a pastor's personal walk and life in God, a pastor's personal ministry and practical issues of ministry. Cost: $39; register by Jan. 3.

  • Cousins also will be the speaker for a free workshop, "Hawaii Moving Forward HHS Workshop: Managing Conflict Successfully," from 8:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 11 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel, open to all faith- and community-based organizations. Reservations required.

Information on either event: 988-9777 or www.himonline.org.

    MANY NAMES OF JESUS UNVEILED

Kaumakapili Church is having a slightly different take on its 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service this year: They're having a pageant, "Na Inoa O Iesu" (The Names of Jesus), which will focus on the many names by which Christians worldwide know Jesus.

Look for a scene in which the Christmas story includes not only Mary, Joseph, the Christ child and the shepherds, but children representing Japan, Latin America, Africa and Hawai'i. The finale will include a hula to the song "I Call Him Lord."

    Information: 845-0908.

    DRIVE-THROUGH NATIVITY TODAY

Central Union Church presents its annual "Gift of Bethlehem," 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today on the lawn of the church, 1660 South Beretania St. (corner of Punahou and Beretania), with the entrance from South Beretania, exiting on Punahou.

The free drive-through features living scenes surrounding the birth of Christ. The production includes strolling shepherds, caroling angels, exotic Eastern kings, sheep and donkeys and the Holy Family.

Spectators can either enjoy the view from the car or walk the length of the grounds.
