TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Robbie the Reindeer in Hooves of Fire" and "Robbie the Reindeer in Legend of the Lost Tribe," 8 and 8:30 p.m., CBS. The British have the kind of droll, dry wit that can make a familiar subject seem fresh and funny. These two cartoons offer prime examples. The first, in 1999, introduced Robbie as the son of Rudolph — a name that's never uttered, for copyright reasons. He's a shy sort, overshadowed by his dad's reputation. The second, in 2002, introduced new problems. Both were redubbed for the U.S. audience with American voices. Ben Stiller is Robbie, surrounded by Britney Spears, Leah Remini and Brad Garrett. There's even a token Brit with Hugh Grant as Blitzen.

OF NOTE

"Lara Croft, Tomb Raider" (2001), 5 p.m., and "Spider-Man" (2002), 7 p.m., TNT. Two action films run back to back. The first has Angelina Jolie as an action hero; the second has Tobey Maguire as a superhero.

"Three Days" (2001), 6 p.m.; "Christmas in Boston" (2005), 8, 10 p.m.; ABC Family. This channel does a solid job of creating new movies for its "25 Days of Christmas" spree. Here are two that have a rich look and well-drawn characters. In "Three Days," Reed Diamond is a decent sort who became too self-involved. Now he can relive the last days before the death of his wife (Kristin Davis). In "Christmas in Boston," two sweet-spirited types (Marla Sokoloff and Patrick Adams), finally meet after more than a decade of e-mails.

"The Sound of Music" (1965), 7 p.m., ABC. Julie Andrews sings soaring Rodgers-and-Hammerstein songs, alongside cute kids and gorgeous Austrian scenery. This Oscar winner has been restored to its intended length.

"Frosty the Snowman," 7 p.m., CBS. The snappy song bounces through this 1969 cartoon starring Jimmy Durante, making a so-so story seem kind of fun.

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 8 p.m., NBC. When a woman is poisoned, her husband (Bronson Pinchot), who is a dentist, is suspected. So are some trivia players and her Internet lover.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. Dean Cain plays a suspected rapist. Things get more complicated when a key witness slips into a coma and since the suspect is married to her, he has a life-or-death power.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Jack Black, whose "King Kong" is now in theaters, hosts. Neil Young is the musical guest.
